Whispers

Good evening! It is the second day of Hari Raya. To all Muslim friends, Selamat Hari Raya and enjoy your reunion with family and friends. Wishing everyone happy holidays this long weekend.

For this week’s Malaysian Writers FB group poetry challenge, the word prompt was ‘secret’. I wrote a piece about secrets and gossipers. When do innocence things become scandals? When can people stop overworking their imagination? 😉

I decided to write this poem in a 5-7-5-7 format, with an A, B, A, B rhyming scheme. This means:

A (5)
B (7)
A (5)
B (7)

Well, I just wanted to play around with the rhyme and syllables. 😉

Whispers

Whispers in the trees
Echoes in the green valley
Soft buzzing of bees
You know the secret, surely?

Indistinct voices
Lamentations of anguish
Poorly made choices
What were they thinking; their wish?

Ill-fated embrace
A sullied reputation
Fall into disgrace
Prey of imagination

Foolishness of youth
The simplicity of thought
Quagmire of sooth
Who would believe what they ought?
